Rat Problems

Rat Problems2007-11-24 22:14:28

I have two female rats (Rosie and Ruby) They live in a black wire cage with heaps of toys and space t run around in (the lucky things!)

Well I recently bought them a small roundhouse (Basically a small hammock type house that they can sleep in)

About after a week in there new house which they seemed to like, they slept in it a lot and such. I woke up in the morning and found that they have chewed up one side of the roundhouse!

(Luckily its got fabric on the inside and outside stitched together) So they ended up making only to small holes on the outside as a result.

I really want to stop this if it is possible. They have HEAPS of other toys made of wood that they can chew on, since I'm not too willing to buy them ANOTHER home if they keep chewing them up!

So basically I was wondering if there was a way to somehow make them not chew there house up into tiny bits.

Answers:

As someone else mentioned, they are probably just try to make a nest... But they also do need to chew!

You can get some things from the pet shops designed for rodents to chew that will not harm them (usually in the shape of fruits) So get them some things to chew on! also... You can get a chunk of wood to put in their cage (a small log etc) just make sure that it isn't a type of wood that is harmful to them...

Also... In regards to the chewing through the roundhouse... Well i buy my girls those baby bunny rugs, and they chewed through their first one heaps... but then they kinda calmed down with the second one...
