Rat Prombelm help please
1) The "Honeymoon Period" is over and your older girl has come to the realization that her young visiter is now a permanent resident. Now it's time to show the youngster who's boss. They will get along, females do accept each other better then males.
2) Maternal Hormones have kicked in for the older girl but because she's never been a mother, she's being a bit rough in her maternal care.
3) The stress of the quick intro has lowered the immune system of the younger girl, and in turn has allowed the mites to take over on her body. In her weakened state she is now a sick rat and your older girl doesn't want her in the colony. Your description of tiny scabs and scratches on her back is more in line with mites then rat fights.

If you can rule out mites, and excessive scratching from the claws then it's just what happens to hairless rats because they don't have hair to protect their delicate skin. Olive Oil rubs sooth hairless rat skin.
Edit:
mrs. phas could you please state your source that hairless rats do not get mites? They can't get lice because there is no hair shaft for the louse to lay it's eggs, but they can still get burrowing, and blood-sucking mites.

Are there terrified screeches coming from the cage? Is there blood being drawn? Does the younger girl look like she's cowering in the presents of the older girl? If no, then they are still buddies. If yes, then my suggestion would be to separate the girls and start over. I can help you with the intros, spazrats@yahoo.ca
