Rat is dying help
my rat is swaying, breathing heavily, being restless not eating. We have spent hundreds of dollars on him at the vet for other various problems so I know my mom won't take him back. Is he dying what can I do please help i really love him and what is the average rats life span?

no offence, but i had a squirrel and it died too.
They generally die if you keep them in cages. Infact, i had 2 pet squirrels and both of them became sick - i gave away one of them and the other one died - i think of a heart attack, though i mnot sure of the real cause.

Rats don't live very long. Those that last 2 - 3 years are considered old already.
Just take him back to the vet and get him euthanised if it looks as though he is really suffering. I am sorry to hear this but you cannot avoid the inevitable.
It is best to make it as painless as possible for him.

I know what you are going through. I had 13 pet rats that i loved dearly and one by one they all died. I took Molly to the vet and seeing her put down was horrible. I never did that again. Kept them comfortable, warm and let them die at home sourrounded by their loved ones ( rosy, mildred, R'for, carmel, arrow, blossum, bonker, horrie,maude, milly, mum rat, mary) and me . They usually live between 18 months to 3 years.
