Rat issure please help
Okk well my twin and I bought a rat last week, we decided to get another one since we don't really like to share. Well the one from last week (Molly) is my twin sister's. And I just bought mine today [[like 30 minutes ago] (Holly) but when we put them in the same cage they started jumping on each other! I got nervous for Holly since she's smaller and I don't want her to get hurt. Do you think it's okay to leave them in the same cage, or buy them seperate ones, or what? Please help.
Answers:hey! well my friends rats did the same and they are both female. i asked him why, and he said its just because they are in heat. i think you should keep them together as rats are very sociable animals. but if you 1 starts crying out, blow on your rats and they should stop, if not then remove your rat for 15mins until they calm down. then they should be fine.
They could be mating
what you should do is get a second a cage and put them side by side and leave it like that for a while (about a week) so they get used to each other ... then try putting them together and if they still fight keep them separated.
You need to introduce them in a neutral area like the couch, so the one you had first doesn't feel territorial in the cage!

really you should only have rats together from same litter. You have introduce a second rat so they are probably fighting for dominance. We got 2 male rats from different litters, but at the same time. They cuddle up together on their hammock but do squabble occasionally.
If it's just jumping on each other and tussling then they're likely just establishing dominance. As long as there's no biting or screeching, shouldn't be a problem.
Are they going to remain in the same cage, or at least nearby each other? One thing you could do is put them right next to each other in separate cages to get used to each other. If they're sharing a cage they will likely work it out.
Don't worry about the jumping and tussling if that's all that is though. That's normal enough.
