Rat on a diet

Rat on a diet2007-11-24 22:14:27

My poor little rat is getting chubby...he loves his treats, but he is starting to show signs of bumblefeet...i dont want that at all, can anyone recommend a good way to put a chuncky rat on a diet...i know less treats and less amount of food and exercise, but what else?

Answers:

Oh forget the diet. I have a fat rat and he's much cuter that way. Just don't give him too many carbs like pancakes and chocolate chip muffins like I do, and I'm sure he'll be fine! Who wants a skinny rat anyway.

Do you have a wheel for your rat? Rodents love wheels. They will run on those things all day. I would buy the metal kinds to make sure it will hold his weight. There's also balls you can place him into and he can run around your house safely. How long have you had your rat? Are you sure it's a male? When I was a kid we had hampsters. Everytime we had a female it was pregnant. Don't give your rat a lot of treats.
You seem to have all the bases covered...i can't think of anything else you can do to help your rat loose weight.
I'd recommend circle trainings and to walk more. And how old is he? And why do you think he needs to loose weight? I once took my rat to a vet, for another reason but I also considered by rat too fat. The first question I was asked was "Why is she so small?"
whats the bottom of his cage?
