Rat or hamster
which one
Answers:This depends on what you are looking for. If you just want a pet that is "cute" to watch when you get home from school or work, then you'll probably prefer a hamster.
But if you want a pet that is definately going to interact with you and greet you when you come near the cage and has the intelligence of a dog... go for a rat!
I've been raising rats for nearly 30 years and hands DOWN they are by far one of the best pets I've ever had. :) They don't have the odour that comes with most small animals, they are clean, VERY sociable, can be trained to do tricks, and recognize their owners.
I've kept hamsters as well, but have found them to be a lot more temperamental, faster to bite, and a lot dirtier. They also sleep all day and can get VERY irritable when you try to wake them up.
My choice? RATS! No question!
rat
Hamster.
Which one are you more like?
hamster
Ferret, fitch, or squirl.
Rats are far more intelligent than hamsters. We have had both. Our rats do a lot more than hamsters can do. Rats can recongize their favorite person's voice, rats have perception of revenge and tend to know the things closest to your heart. Our rat destroyed my sister's dance gown after being yelled at. I think RAT not hamster.
rats live a lot longer and not quite so fragile
i'd say a hamster... but why not try and consider a gerbil(sp?)
hamster they are cute but rats are a bit scary looking.
You cant find a better pet then a rat. They are as itellegant as a dog. I currently have15 rats and they are soo smart everytime I come near they automatically come running. In fact I have one sitting on my shoulder right now. Rats are very affectionate and not half as fragile as hamsters. Plus, Rats dont bite unless they have babies(as I recently found out) That become devoted to their masters just like dogs. I couldnt imagine living without them. Rats can also sense danger. Our rat once smelled smoke and started going crazy trying to get out of its cage to warn us. Thankful it was just the neighbor cooking, lol. But rats are great but yopu get whatever suits you, good luck with your fuzzy friend whatever it may be!
We have both of them. We have 11 rats, 19 Syrians and 11 dwarf hamsters. Plus we also have 5 gerbils, 2 rabbits, an iguana, a tarantula, 2 cockatiels, 14 cats, 1 wolf hybrid, 2 dogs, a Pygmy goat, a red sheep and 3 fish. All live in my home or in the barn. Many of them have been rescued and are part of my family some for over 12 years while some of the small animals are up for adoption. I treat all as part of my family until they are adopted to they're new homes.
dwarf hamsters. they are much cuter.
Hamster.I like ferrets to. And I ounce had 5 baby rats but I like hamsters more.
I would say choose one that best fits you. But my opinion I would say a rat. Hamsters tend to be grumpy and bite. Rats usually are friendly don't regulary bite and don't mind if you wake them up.
get a rat... they're much more interactive with you, and have personalities and intelligence to go along with it. hamsters are boring, and you can't really train them to do anything like you can rats.
a few years ago i would have said hamster but now after having both i would have to say RAT! all the way
Go for a rat they're the smartest animal I know.
