whats the good points and bad points of owning these intelligent and in my opinion cute pets..

Answers:

Let me start with the downside.

Rat's need daily care and attention, they also need lots of stimulation. An uncared for rat becomes quite unplesant (smell) and will be a very uninteresting pet.

Rat's are prone to various vetinary problems, which can be both time consuming and worrying for the owner. Rat condition can deteriorate very quickly and they do not take well to antibiotics. A mastectomy on a female rat for instance can cost up to 拢80.

Badly reared rat's are liable to bite and be very difficult to handle unless you put in many hours with them.

I have pointed these things out so you know, in advance that it can go wrong, so if youre not totally comitted, it may be worth thinking about other pets.

On the plus side.

Rats are incredibly inteligent animals, who, with proper stimulation can and do fascinate children and adults. Rat's can solve problems (find hidden food, open boxes etc), and are very industrious animals. Rat's all have very individual characters, and are good companions all be it small ones. The average rat lives 3 to 5 years... much longer than mice.

A well reared rat is easy and fun to handle, and easy to catch should they escape.

Stuff I think you should know.

Rats are social animals, PLEASE do not get just one, they need companionship, so best to get two.
