the good points are, theyre cute and very easy to look after, rats are the cleanest rhodent to own. They will generally go to the toilet in one specific area of their cage, making it easier to clean out. Our frst rat was so friendly, we could take him out of the cage and let him crawl over our heads and shoulders and stuff. But our second rat, he was more aggresive. My little sister decided to stick food through the bars of the cage, so whenever you put your hand in the cage he would bite it. Also wash your hands after handling chicken and sweetcorn before putting your hands in the cage, as this is their favousite snack. They also like a cage with different levels, and cardboard chubes to play with. A salt lick is a very good idea aswell. Also, they like to live with a partner, doesn't have to be of a different sex.

-If handled often, very friendly and affectionate

-Rarely bite, if ever

-Can eat a wide range of things without problems

-Will let you know when they're happy by 'purring'

-Will sit on your shoulder and lick you

Bad Points:

-Short lifespan

-Have to be played with frequently, and if not handled enough, become bored and lethargic

-[Male rats especially] mark their territory (i.e. you, your furniture, your friends) with pee

-Tumours are common in older rats
