Rat question

Rat question2007-11-24 22:14:28

I am now confronting a question that I have never even thought of before. Do rats shed? And if so, How much? I am pretty sure they don't shed because i have heard nothing of it, but just wondering. Thanks.

Answers:

rats do shed but not like cats and dogs. rats don't get a heavy winter coat or shed it in the summer. they keep the same fur consistency in thickness(unless ill) but new hairs replace old ones that fall out like the hair on our bodies do.

Yes they do shed. I find little hairs around my rats' cage all the time, but it's no more than a short hair cat would shed.
yes. all mammals shed.
Rats shedding.hmmmmmm..... they dont shed but they can loose hair from people obviosly pulling on it.rats are complex and because they dont shed is because of cold climates... rats live around the and they dont shed because of cold climates and warm climates... lets say a rat living in..San Francisco(FOGY!)they wouldnt loose there coats because of the cold. In warm weather rats dont loose their coats because they usually live in sewer lines or have a family who keeps them cool on hot days...

Hope this was educational,

Ayla

yes rats do shed but not very much. If you find huge clumps of hair take it to the vet.

and for the person who said all mammals shed, no they don't.
