What type of cage are you planning on using? What litter are you planning on using? I always recommend using Care Fresh only because it's proven to be safer for all small animals. I have read many small animal sites that recommend it by name and have seen many on here who also recommend it to other just like I'm doing. By using cedar or pine your rats can become very sick from the toxic fumes that are emitted from the urine mixing with the chemicals in the woods, you might not smell it but they can. Also pine, aspen and most other woods can cause allergic reactions such as runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, wheezing, and hair loss. Our first 2 were housed in pine at the pet store and the female was very sick and was having allergic reactions to the pine. I took her to the vets the next day and she was placed on antibiotics and eye drops- this cleared her up plus we use only the Care Fresh litter that helped her more. If the rats are housed in any wood litters, I would take them to the vet for a check up to make sure they are healthy.

There's a person, spazrats, that gets on here that is very knowledgable on rats and has a site. Their site is listed below. Listed are some other sites I like.

they're anywhere from $3 and up. either store is okay. sometimes they have rats up for adoption for free at petco.
well, they usually cost about $6.00. Both stores are fine, but petco tends to have a better selection
