Rats: 2 males or 2 females
heres my delima: I want to get a pet rat and since I know that they should have company, I desided to get two.
So 2 males: pros- can cuddle, less energetic, larger cons-huge testies, they will eventualy fight, stinky
2 females: pros-wont fight, active night and day cons- too much energy, smaller
Answers:Besides the obvious physical differences whether you get males or females will not make too much of a difference.
First, it will be best to adopt them at the same time from the same litter (preferably from a reputable breeder).
Second, adopt 3! Yes, three, rats love company and the more company the better ... cost will be virtually no different than having two.
Third, females are smaller than males and need a habitat that addresses this. They tend to be a little more active than males, so you will need to decide if you want big squishy rat boys, or lean limber little blurs of loving.
Fourth, the real key is the socializing you can provide your pet rats. Females are just as loving, or more so than males, provided you can give them the attention they may need to have them relax and slow down for it.
2 females
2 females. Males are so territorial. I have had two males in the same cage and eventually had to seperate them into their own cages.
When you get your two rats (whichever gender) make sure they are the same gender!! There is nothing worse then having unplanned baby rats.
2 males may fight until one kills the other, I would definatly go with 2 F
if you were to get 2 it should be two females because they won't fight and also make sure they are form the same litter and they have been living together for their whole life. i wouldn't get two males because they will fight. If i were you i would get 1 male and he will be fine if you give him a lot of attention and put some toys in his cage.
I would get two females but it's entirely up to you!!!
If you want two, females are better and less likely to fight. Rats do love company, however, if you have enough time in your day to give to your pets, one rat could be fine. I only have one girl at the moment, and she isn't too lonley because i play with her at least three hours a day. If you want more of a cuddly loving pet, males are better. Females love to run around and be silly, but they can be lovie too. Good luck!
I've had about eight male rats, only two at a time, none of them were ever related to each other, and I've never had rats fight. My two boys will fight for dominance (similar to alpha dog) but it's not real fighting, it's just wrestling. They never hurt each other, so don't let that stop you from getting boys.
