Rats are nocturnal, right? If they are, do they make a lot of noise at night? I am getting 2 male rats.

If you are worried about noise you should not get a rat. I had one in my room and all it did all night was run around on it's little wheel (which by the way I found out later you should not buy for a rat as their tails may become stuck) and make squeaky noises. Despite all the cuteness it was very annoying. I would recommend keeping them in a room other than the room you sleep in to avoid being kept up, but rats are very intelligent and friendly and worth the extra trouble.

Yes, most rodents are. I have chinchillas, and as long as they aren't in the bedroom the noise usually isn't a problem. However, they have demanded I come play w/ them at 2 or 3 in the morning, by doing high pitched screams. Yet, if you love them it's a small sacrifice.

Rats, like many members of the rodent family are basically nocturnal although their behavior can be modified to an extent if you play with them during daylight hours on a reular basis. At night you may hear them scurrying around their cage but usually they are quiet animals (unless they get into a fight).
