Rats have bloody noses

Rats have bloody noses2007-11-24 22:14:48

My 2 female albino girls sometimes get blood on their nose. I t goes away pretty soon but i am still worried about them. could it be anything serious? if so, what?

Answers:

It's probably porphorin, not blood. It normally occurs in rat mucous & if you only see it once in awhile it's not a problem. They can have it in the corners of their eyes, too. If it's frequent, or your little ones make sounds when they breathe, it could be a respiritory problem & they should see the vet for antibiotics. Our pink-eyed-white (PEW) boys get it on their backs from grooming each other but a quick wash takes care of it.

its okay it happens all the time it happened to my sis's two rats to, its normal!
theyve prolly bin boxin lol!
My pet rat Abilgail, had this problem all the time, and our vet said it was normal.
my little girl Pinkie gets blood on her nose to, i have been wondering if it was bad. thanks for asking that ?.
dont worry it was probly just porphorin, not blood. it is their mucus. it is actually colored red
is there any cuts around their noses. if not it's probably perphorin. it's a redish mucus they produce.
It's not blood! It's, well, boogers and eye crusties. It goes away because they clean it off themselves when they wake up! When they stop cleaning it off themselves is when you have to worry, because then they're too sick to keep clean.
