Recommended Hamster/Rodent
I currently have a Roborovski dwarf hamster, and have had the hamster for a year now.
The Roborovski dwarf hamsters are hard to handle since they are so small and extremely fast, they also bite alot.
I am planning to get another one for my 10 year old brother,
but wanted the two hamsters to bond or interact.
We were looking into the Long Haired Teddy Bear Hamster,
as he wanted one that he could hold&play with&would not bite him.
Do you have any other recommendations of a breed of hamster?
Answers:The chances of these hamsters getting along are very unlikely. Especially if you have had your hamster alone for a year. If you put them together they will fight, and it most cases, hamsters fight to the death. Dwarf hamsters are particularly unsocial hamsters, which wont help. If you are going to get another hamster, you wll have to get another cage, or risk you hamsters fighting and doing serious damage to eachother.
I would recommend a black bear hamster. I can almost guarantee that the hamsters will never bond though. Dwarf hamsters are usually quite aggressive as cute as they may be. Black bear hamsters usually cost 2-3 times the price of an average hamster but are very calm and rarely bite (if ever).
I've had many different breeds of hamsters and that one by far was the best. Teddy bear hamsters get a lot of food and bedding stuck in their fur. Golden hamsters...well...they can be a bit hyper and don't grow too big either (small and fast). Can be a pain to keep up with. After any hamster has been awake for a while, it will speed up and become harder to keep up with, I just hated always picking things out of my hamsters fur. Black bears are usually a bit bigger and slower (not much slower). They are good little friendly rodents.
