hi i want to get eather a hamster or a rat i know if i get a hamster i am going to get 2 of them and if i get rats i can keep them in the same cage and which one would youll reccomend thanks and how much do hamsters and rats cost a eather peto or petsmart

Rats make much better pets than hamsters. They are very clean, love to interact with people, they are quite intelligent, they can learn tricks, they learn their name and the names of the other rats. They do need to have a cage mate to cuddle with and play with when you aren't home. There are a lot of myths about rats that are untrue. It's amazing how many people hate or fear them. The pro-rat answers are good. Cedar shavings are bad. They may not be as "stuffed toy" cute as hamsters, and some people think their tails are ugly, but they are cute, especially the dumbo ear rats. You get used to the tail and even begin to think it's cute. Their personalities more than make up for the teddy bear looks of the hamsters. I find them to be extremely cute. Hamsters cost more than rats.

RATS--> about $5 each.. the cage needs to be bigger than a hamsters. you need two of them and i would recommend getting two girls.. they get along better and with boys there is a chance they wont get along.. then you have to buy another cage.. with rats you also need a cage that has a couple levels and lots of toys!.. they need to climb and have something to do at all times...the bedding can be anything but cedar... rats are GREAT pets! They are sooo smart and can be taught lotsa tricks.. and they can come to their name! and they NEVER bite unless they feel threatened
