Serious Rat question
I have a One year old male Japanese Black Hooded Rat. I just recently got another one and of course they were not in the same cage being both males I didn't want them to fight. About two-three months after I got the baby rat my one year old started to act funny. He won't let my hold him or kiss him and he is really lazy and tired and he acts funny and imbalanced and sometimes falls when he climbes up on the bar in his age. At first we were sure that he was going to die, but hes been like this for at least a month now and he seems like hes not going to die any more but his condition is not improving. He hasn't been to the vet for this problem because my uncle (being a vet) said they really couldn't do anything for it because he really isn't sick he's just acting funny. He' s be to the vet before because of fleas and a swolen foot and it's very costly. Just to treat the fleas it was over 100 dollars and he's had fleas twice. If any one can help please answer! Thanx!!
Answers:I agree, definately get them to a vet.
And, you should really consider putting your two male rats together. As it's true they may be a little terretorial at first, male rats ARE able to live with other males with little problems, usually. Male mice, on the other hand, are harder to introduce. Look up "Pet Rat introductions" on Google or Goosemoose.com to help you intro.
In the mean time, I'd get your oldest rat to the vet. If there's nothing wrong with him, he's most likely just hormonal. Neutering him should make him less aggressive.
