Should I consider a pet mouse

Should I consider a pet mouse2007-11-24 22:15:21

Okay, here's the facts: I have had the following rodent pets: A rat, and 3 hamsters over the length of when i was like probably 5 years old to 12 years old. I'm 14 now and have been playing around with pet birds for a while, but I've decided that I just enjoy the little fuzzy pets better (=

In the past with all my hamsters, I loved them, but the thing is they just too bulky and some of them chose to be lazy and sleep around all day. The rat I had was my very first pet and I had him a loooong time ago so I don't quite remember exactly how he was. Though I remember he pooped a lot, which was a downer.

Anyway, I've been looking and I'm trying to decide if a pet mouse would be worth having. Although I've heard they are stinky, is there any way to prevent this/is it true (or rather more true than it is with rats, hamsters, gerbils, etc.) and also is there any other bad facts about them and why I should not get a pet mouse?

Thank you so much

Over the years, I own 6 mice total. Books and stuff said females are better because males fight with each other and smell more. My females didn't fight with each other but they smelled worse then my rats and hamster out together. I cleaned it twice a week really well and they still smelled! I would hate to have had a male! They are super cute and can be held but they really don't need or like to be petted and held. All of my mice pooped a TON when I took them out. I like them because they are small and don't need to be held a lot. Also, my mice only lived to six months but one lived to be three but she was supper mean. I would recomend rats because they actually like attention, are smarter then rats and live longer. My rats only poo when I take them out longer then and hour. Thats their signal to go home. They do that because they are nervous and mice are super high strung and nervous. Rats may do that in the begining but they stop. Andif you want a pet thats fun to watch, get mice because they are not very alert and rats like to sit in their cage and watch you! Both are good pets but if you want a pet that will love you back get a rat.

I own four, and I have a male and the others are females. I suggest mice because they do learn rather quickly, and are really sweet when you handle them. I would just lay down on my bed with one and watch TV and it would crawl all over my shoulder and nibble my hands and stuff. Yes, they do stink, but they won't unless you clean their cage out. :D
