Should I get a Dwarf Hamster ar a Teddy Bear Hamster2007-11-24 22:15:23

I recently got a Teddy Bear Hamster But it got out of its cage some how, I bought its cage cheap and am planing on buying a better cage and also a new hamster. My brother used to have 5 hamsters and they ate each other becaue they were in the same cage so he is also going to give me all the stuff he used forhis hamsters.

I think you should get a teddy bear hamster but if you want more then one you want dwarfs.

I would suggest a teddy bear hamster. I have always found them to be a lot friendler than the dwarf hamster. I used to work in a pet store and we couldn't even clean the cage without being bit at. However I have met a few nice dwarf hamster, but mostly they were pretty nasty.

If you are looking for quality secure cages, try http://www.martinscages.com/ they are great cages and a good company to deal with. Stay away from the plasic cages as they are easily escapable, a good wire cage is best.

Good luck with you hammie, which ever you choose.

I had Siberian dwarf hamsters and I loved them. I had 2 in the same cage for a while and they did start biting at each other so I did have to separate them. But they were really great. I got to handle them a lot cuz I played with them from the time I got them til they died. One I didn't play with as often and he had a tendency to bite sometimes but as long as I played with them regularly they didn't bite.
Dwarf hamsters are tiny and in some preferances cuter than teddy bears. But Dwarf are speedy quick and bolty. When you hold them you have to keep it sort of limited or be really careful because of how jumpy and fast they are. Teddy bears bond better and are calmer and (in my opinion) a little sweeter. I have a black bear hamster which is a similar short hair hammie to the teddy bear. GET BEAR HAmmIES. :)
I personally like the teddy bear hamsters though they are good little escape artists. I had one and he was constantly getting out untill i got him a glass tank. Their very friendly though. my dwarf hamsters weren't quite as friendly. Hope this helps!
its up 2 u
dwarfs are much smaller and more fragile and easier to lose teddy bear hamsters are my personal favorite and they are less fragile!if u have a youngster get a teddy bear...i thought they were called honey bear hamsters?!?!
I recommend the Syrian hamster (teddy bear) if you're only choice is between those two. Personally, my preference is for Roborovski Hamsters. They aren't as popular and so haven't been as exploited with careless over breeding. They tend to have sweeter temperaments, are cute as can be, and one of the only social hamsters in the pet industry. (you can keep more than one robo to a cage) Fair warning though, they're tiny and jumpy, so can be harder to handle initially. I think it's worth it.
