Should I get a pet mouse

Should I get a pet mouse2007-11-24 22:14:59

I am willing to take care of it and everything. Is it worth it to get one? Will it be nice, not bite, and be willing to let me hold it?

Answers:

I have 8 female mice. I bought four about a month ago, and decided I loved them enough to go and 4 more. I had never had pet mice before, but I was pleased to realize that they are remarkably easy to care for. I just have water bottles and food bowls in their cage and a couple of times a week I change out their bedding.

When I first got a couple of my mice I did get bit pretty hard. I figure its excusable though because they are about the size of my thumb and I know I'd be freaked out if some giant took me away from my family and was trying to hold me. I figured out its best when you first get them to just give them a few days in their house alone so they can get used to your smell and voice. I still have a few that are skiddish (Like I said I've only had them about a month,) but most will not run from me and like to be carried around the house. One of them, Meredith, is so tame I can't even put my hand in the cage to give them treats without her trying to climb in my hand.

The mice like to ride on my shoulders or in my hands and often just sit with me on the couch. They are very inquisitive though so they don't stay still for long. I have really long hair and if I'm not careful I will catch them nesting in my hair. I only have them out one at a time and I don't always take them out. They are a lot of fun to watch and I feel safer when they are in their cage.
