One good thing about getting an animal from the shelter is that you can be sure that the animal has been checked out to make sure that it's healthy.

Another advantage is that shelters WANT you to be happy with your new pet. The shelter I volunteer at makes sure animals are good pets--that they are used to interacting with people and that they don't bite--before making the animal available for adoption.

I'm a big fan of adopting an animal from a shelter.

i would get a hamster from the pet store. hamsters from shelters were probably abused and scarred for life. if you want to care for a hamster with needs the shelter is a perfect place!
