Should i get a pet rat2007-11-24 22:14:59

I want a pet rat i've done reaserch but my mom dosent (i mean REALLY dosent) like rats or mice (not even 2). i dont think she knows i can take care of it and do all the stuff you need to do. my parents are the ones who dont like it (mom and dad) and i dont know how to convinse them. my mom hates animals.

rats are awesome. Yes! get one!

They'll lick your hands in affection and will seek you out for attention, they'll play with you and love games (simple games like hide and seek or obstacle courses - not chess!), they can learn tricks, be litterboxed trained, they dont bite like hamsters (unless you're REALLY hurting them), and they're not skittish/noisy like guinea pigs. The key is to getting a rattie off a good breeder instead of at a pet store. One that has been properly socialized will be amazing...like a tiny ferret or kitten. :D

Try showing your mom some youtube clips of trained rats doing tricks, that might pursuade her. :D

I have two pet female rats. they have their own personalities. one like to run all over my aparment climbs up my pant legs and loves to be on my shoulder playing in my hair. the other loves to run on the wheel and rarely come out. she is very timid. Punky the one that goes everywhere licks my hands. they know there names and come when called. they are very smart and enjoyable pets. I bought two so they woudl have eachother for when I am not home. I let them run around every day for a few hours. they are farely low maintenence. clean there cage once or twice a week. and make sure they have food and water. maybe buy a book on rats to educate your parents on pet rats.

I had to take care of my sister's lab rat one summer while she was off somewhere. It freaked me out at first, but once I got used to it I really liked him. He was very smart and I trained him to do all kinds of things for food. Maybe you could rent that movie where the little kid has a cute pet rat. I think it might be Home Alone 3. Where the little kid uses a remote control car to spy on the bad guys?
