Should i get a rat at petsmart
I am going to edmond thursday and they have a petsmart around there. If i find a rat that i like that appearce heathly and social should i get it?
Answers:Check out the living conditions first. Our PetSmarts here are ok, but I'm sure every location is different.
Look to make sure that males aren't mixed with females. This is neglectful on the store's part. If you're picking a female, I'm sure you'll be content with ONE rat instead of possibly TEN.
Pick an animal that comes to check you out. Squeak through your lips/teeth and see if any come to you, or put your hand in to see if they'll come investigate. That'll the the most sociable rat.
Next, look your rat over. The fur should be soft, the skin should be free of scabs or rough spots. Check the eyes and nose for anything that looks like blood. Rats secrete a red mucous from their eyes and/or nose when they're ill or stressed. Listen to the rat's breathing and make sure they're not wheezy or sneezing.
Another alternative is to look up the local rat rescues/clubs in your area. There's almost always some up for adoption and they may have different/more breeds than what PetSmart can offer.
absolutely i havent had any problems with rats from there.. make sure you ask lots of questions about rats if you havent had them b4 they have care sheets and stuff on them.. and they even guarantee them for 2 weeks
Only if you like dead rats.
I got my rat from Petsmart and I've had him for a year know. He seems pretty healthy. Make sure that when you are looking that you are able to test their personality to make sure that they don't bite. Rats don't bite very often but one that does needs a lot of coaxing and work to turn them around. Also make sure that they don't have any discharge from the eyes or nose and make sure that they aren't breathing rapid or shallow. These things can be an indecation of health problems. I'm assuming you want a healthy rat companion, right?? Good luck, I love my rat and I know that you'll love yours as well.
Yes most of my rats were bought at petsmart or breeders, other stores animals tend to have shorter lives and are more prone to sickness, while petsmart seems to have healthy social baby rats... i would also suggest you get a boy they are less aggressive, more social, and seem to be more tame/cuddly.
