Should i get another rat2007-11-24 22:15:00

i have a rat whos 6 months old. He's a boy. Should i get another male rat.

P.S. I here rats are very social

if he's alone, then YES. Rats are very socail and love companionship of other rats. Get one around the same age and introduce them in neutral territory. That means introduce them on the floor or something. Not in the cage or they may fight. Change the cage to get all of your current rat's smell and stuff out then put them both in. They will soon get along. If they fight, don't get involved unless they are biting. When separating fighting rats, always use gardening gloves or working gloves. Anything that's puncture proof should do fine.

Yes, it's a good idea :).

The only problem is that he's male--males are a little more likely to fight with newcomers than females, especially if they aren't neutered. You'll probably still be able to introduce them successfully, with patience, though.

Two rats are better than one! They'll enjoy each other's company greatly, and you'll enjoy watching them together. Just make sure you get another male if you're not entirely prepared for babies!

I have a rat that is a year old and i am getting him a cage mate. They are very social and should be kept in pairs. Just remember to read up on introductions with males it could go bad. Good Luck
