Should i get my guinea pig a cage mate2007-11-24 22:15:00

i have had him for a week and he is 3 months.if i get one how do i get them not to fight?

I wouldn't get one to put in with him. It is only a good idea to put 2 male guinea pigs together if they are from the same litter. Introducing 2 new male pigs together that haven't been together from birth is a bad idea. They will fight. Your male will be fine on his own. Just give him a lot of love and attention.

Yes he needs a cagemate! Guinea Pigs are herd animals, and therefore social and need companianship from others of their kind.

When you get another one you really should keep them apart for 3 weeks for health reasons (called quarantine), especially if you got them from a pet store.

Also you need to make sure that they are the same sex, so they don't breed. If you got the one you have now from a pet store, etc., you need to make SURE if it's female or male Before you get another pigger!
