It takes time to build a relationship with your new piggie. Be patient. Give him a day to calm down and then spend time with him, cuddle him on your lap, pet him, talk softly to him, etc. When you go to reach for him, make sure he can see your hand coming. If you reach from behind or in his side blind spot, it'll scare the bejeebers out of him every time. Always reach in s-l-o-w-l-y. Quick movements scare them. If during these initial months you make a habit of slowly reaching in to pet him, *without* taking him out of the cage, he'll learn to relax in your presence. If he thinks you're going to chase him around the cage with your big scary hand everytime he sees you, he will *always* run. Also try always having little treats available so that he associates YOU with "good" things. Try having a few baby carrots or a sprig of parsley in your hand during petting sessions. Before long, he'll be running to the side of the cage to see you when you walk in the room!

sure, they love attention
should do your research for the next hour or so
He'll need a day or so to get used to his surroundings. You don't want to put too much stress on him at one time.
No. You'll kill him from stress! You're better off putting him in his carrier, bringing him home as fast as possible, coaxing him into his cage (which should be completely ready for his inhabiting with food, water...), softly talking to him daily, and start making physical contact with him next week, when he's more adjusted. Otherwise, he'll die from stress.
You can't tease him like that. You wouldn't show a child a new toy then take him away from it to selfishly please you so if you show him the cage you have to let him enjoy it you cruel b*tch.
No - give him time to get used to being in a new cage, in a new house, with new smells and new sounds and new people. Play with him after he's had a chance to calm down some and get used to his new home.
maybe, but just for a few mins you dont want to tire him out.i hav a ferret and when i 1st got him we played with him all day and he slept for the next day.
NO! you need to let your guinea pig get used to his new home first. I would recommend that you wait a few days before letting your guinea pig out it's cage. That way, he can get used to his new surroundings and such. On the first day, close the door to the room that your guinea pig is in. Let him stay in the room like that for an hour. Then, you can open the door and you can leave it open. you may talk to him, but, DO NOT pet him or open his cage door. Talk sofetly to your new pet. On the second day, get some fresh fruits and veggies and try to hand feed them to your guinea pig. DO NOT TOUCH him yet. On the third day, give your guinea pig some more fruits and veggies and hand feed them to him. You may gently pet your new guinea pig. But, if your guinea pig becomes scared and tries to run away, then I would recommend that you try again the next day. Keep doing this until your guinea pig TOTALLY trusts you. Then you may let your guinea pig out of it's cage. But, if it comes to cage cleaning and your guinea pig is STILL scared of you, you can still let him out of his cage. Why he is out, you may try to pet him and talk to her softely. This should work!
