Should i spend the 700 dollars on the operation (hampster)
i have a dwarf hampster, age 3, thy live 3-5 yrs, so it can die at anytime, but i just noticed it has a huge lump and the operation is going to cost around 700 dollars, the moral issue im having is wether or not to have the operation done, while the "right" thing to do is to probobly fork out the money, im not sure if its worth it, it could die from old age a week later. Imt hinking of having it put to sleep, but ill feel really bad. Advice??
Answers:Since you already have a surgery cost estimate, I'll assume you've been to the vet with your hammie. I think the only person who can really answer your question is yourself. That is indeed a lot of money for surgery on a hamster. And hammies don't really do well with anesthesia. Your hamster is also in the later stages of his/her life. If s/he's not in pain, I'd personally keep him/her comfortable and happy, and only euthanize him/her when that's no longer possible. It doesn't make you a bad person or an irresponsible pet owner. In my experience, when the time comes, you will know. What ever decision you make, it will be the right one, becasue it's obvious by your question that you are doing it out of responsibility and love.
I wouldn't waste that much money on an animal that could die durning the surgy or after or any day. If it's really bad have it put to sleep thats the best thing to do. Hamsters are hard to operate on anyway and thats a huge risk.
Well it depends on how bad the lump is if it is big then you should put the hamster to sleep. If its small then take it to a vet to check it out.
While I'm sure you are quite attached to the hampster, no whay would I spend 700 for an operation. If its comfortable just let it be and if it is suffering then best to put it down
i would not spend that much money on a hamster, but thats just my opinion. if i were you i would just wait until after i put him to sleep and buy a new hamster or another animal i fell on love with at the petstore. good luck!
Are you willing to stand by and watch your hamster perhaps, suffer in pain that it is not able to communicate to you?
