Something wrong with my hamster2007-11-24 22:15:06

lately i have noticed a bulge on the hamsters "butt"...i dont kno if this is part of its body or what...keeps getting bigger...looks as if it is swollen or i read up a little bit on hamsters, and thought it might be a tumor...but i am not sure...please help...tryin to figure out whether or not it is normal or if it needs to go to the vet.

ok if you are using cedar then change to Carefresh ASAP! And then you probably will have to go to the vet! Cedar and Pine Shavings can kill your hamster!! So change to Carefresh!!!!

I would strongly recomend going to the vet. One of my hamsters was starting to bleed, so we were going to take her to the vet and she died before her visit.

We had gotten a different litter that did something to her.

I also had a rabbit and it has these grotts{ poufy things in her nostrils] and it turned out she had siffolus.

If your hamster is a male this will be his testicals.

As hamsters get older their testicals get extremely noticable and hang out of their bodies like 2 pink balls. Sometimes only one pops out, sometimes both. Hamsters testicals can make up to a third of their body weight and can reach a massive size compared to the rest of their body. Its more likely to happen when your hamster is sleeping, just woken, warm, or relaxed. But my hamsters balls hangs from his body all the time.

As for the bedding, im sure you have heard lots of bad reports on cedar bedding, it can be lethal to hamsters, so swap for a product called care fresh, its recycled, pulped paper and not only is it the safest thing for hamsters to use, its great for the environment and hamsters love curling up for a sleep in it. Its very cosy.

It sounds like a tumor. My dwarf hamster died of a tumor. She had one on her chest. If it's a male however, it's just the balls.
