I am curious about something when we go to the pet store to look at hamsters, if the male hamsters tend to be bigger than a female or if they are about the same size? Also if the sex is easy to see and is not buried under it's fur? This is in case the pet store worker says it's a female or male and I want to make sure it isn't different than what they said.

Aw, that's not a stupid question! I'm sure many people ask that. :)

Well, when my hamsters were babies, all six of them looked the same gender. When they get a little older, there rump's look a little different. The male's bottom is round and a little bulgy. The female's bottom is 'pointier' and thinner. That is one way to tell if your soon-to-be hamster is a girl or boy. I hope I helped and you find a good hamster!

just pick it up and look same as a cats sex. the pet store worker wont find it weird its normal to look.

A female is bigger, though not by much in most breeds, the only noticable difference would be in Golden Bears.

To figure out which sex it is lift it by the scruff on the back of its neck. It'll be obvious from there, but if it hasnt started to show yet then check the shape of its tail area, round and bulbous means its a girl

Just look at it if you want a specific sex that's what they would do.I just had my male fixed dog to the groomers and she spent 5 minutes telling me how sweet "she" was !Oh yes they did an excellent job but...

syrian hamster the female is bigger than the male. the dwarf male is bigger but not always so.the male testicle are present and can be seen in a male. a penile opening in male and vaginal and a urinary opening in female and the anus. the distance is shorter in a female the opening can hard to distinquish while they separated by about half inch in a male. only females have nipples

All hamsters in a pet shop should be housed together with the same sex to stop pregnancy occuring, it should infact be labled on the cage whether it contains males or females.

But you can tell easily enough. Males have round fat bottoms, and testicals that hang out of the body!! Needless to say, if your hamster has no balls,its a female!!
