The great escape
we have two gerbils who routinely get loose. the \y let us hold them but are very fast and often get away. now we spend a average of an hour and a half trying to catch them. any suggestions? how to tame>?
Answers:I had 3 hamsters who just loved to escape, so I feel your pain.
I highly recommened getting two of those hamster/gerbil exercise balls. My hamsters LOVED running around in them...it let them use their running instinct, but in a safe manner. Be careful though, I had a hamster who eventually figured out that if she just chewed on the little plastic tab long enough, the cover would pop off, and she could get out of the ball. That was not a fun surprise...hamster ball - no hamster inside.
If you exercise them enough, they won't feel the need to try to escape. I usually let them out 3 times a day, for about 15 minutes at a time. That seemed to satisfy their natural urge to roam, and gave them a chance to go back to the cage to eat, drink some water, and have a nap.
Also, make sure there are no stairs near where the gerbils run in the balls. One trip down the flight of stairs could spell death to your little guys. And make sure the kids know that the hamster ball is not to be kicked like a soccer ball...it's not a toy.
Hope this helps!
put them in a large gate like cage that u would use for like a dog
there is a france you can buy to put them in when you have them out of the cage. there is alot of defiance things out there for this problem you just have to to the store.
