WHY do my GIRL rats hump eachother2007-11-24 22:19:44

My GIRL Rats are Sissters & it freaks me out that they hump!! They also sleep ontop of eachother in this TINEY rat igloo instead of there Large roomy wooden castle...WHY??

They do that to each other warm or dominant one

Female rats hump each other to establish dominance. It's normal and it should stop. They snuggle together in a small igloo to keep warm, have company and they enjoy being in small places when they sleep. If you give them rags, they will scrunch them all up and sleep inside the ball they create. Rats are social animals and will be close to each other as often as they can.

This behaviour is normal for both male and female rats. Female rats come into heat about once or twice a week; the urge to mate comes with this. If there are no male rats are present, they will naturally try to fulfill their needs with a cagemate, even if they are related. It's a completely instinctual response and they do not know any better.
