Spaying a young female is an option, but spaying may or may not work. There hasn't been enough "trials" to say one way or the other. I have had the opportunity to talk to hundreds of rat-keepers over the years and the general concensus is that not many people are willing to take the risk of losing their rats to surgery at a very young age to see if it works in the long term.

Re Red Grapes: A better choice would be a highly concentrated form of that red grape in a product called "Grape Seed Extract".

A rat is going to have to eat an awful lot of red grapes to achieve the same benefits, and it's all because of the rat's high metabolism. The benefits of the product is the seeds and the skin of the grape. So seedless grapes are not helping.

Some of us Holistaratters already have our girls on this product. Other products that might help are fermented soy bean products such as tofu (acts on female hormones), and a product called Green Mush (boosts the immune system).

I don't think you can really stop them from getting tumors, I'm pretty sure they just happen with age and possibly genetics. What might help is making sure they get plenty of exercise and eat healthy. Other than that i'm not sure.

You cant - the tumor problem is a genetic thing in domestic rats and rats in general. Its natures way of controlling a VERY prolific species from overpopulation.
