What can i do to make it less scary for a smaller and younger hamster to get along with an older one
will it ever become comforatable with the older one?
Answers:If you're referring to 2 Syrians, you need to keep them separated in their own cage. These are solitary animals and in captivity will injure each other or even kill one another. Even males and females can't be kept together. In the wild they are never together except for a short time for mating only. By 4-5 weeks mom leaves them to live on their own. In other words get a second cage for each ones safety. We have baby brothers under 4 months, that will have to be separated within the next to try and avoid and fighting.
If these are dwarfs, they should be of the same age, size, and sex or the older one will try to injure or kill the younger one thinking it's trying to steal it's territory. I've seen this occur even between brother dwarfs and one was left nearly dead with half his face torn off and now is fully blind with severe scarring. It's a miracle he even survived the fight and they were only 4 months old but had always been housed together since birth. This is more uncommon among brothers or same age raised together, usually they get along with minor squabbles.
It depends on the breed, most of all. It's probably not a good idea.
