What can i do to make my guine pig like me2007-11-24 22:16:41

he's been in a rough time, and just don't know how to make him feel secure with me. please help

i would start by just being in the same room and talking to him. then let you hand rest in the cage he might shy away at first but eventually he will come up to it. the lightly move your hand to pet him and then eventually you should be able to hold him. this might take a long time. do one step a day and see if this helps!

Patience and determination are the keys. Spend at least 10 minutes twice a day cuddling your guinea pig along with floor time once a day, every day for at least 1 hour. If possible place the cage in the most busiest place of the house, this will get him used to his surroundings, noises etc quicker. Guinea pigs are herd animals by nature and are therefore very social, please consider getting a cage mate. You will probably notice that on the arrival of a new cage mate, that your guinea pig is more active and happier.

Just introduce him to you slowly and offer him treats like carrots etc. and handle him more and more often. Pet him gently and he'll realise you're not going to hurt him.
