What can rabbits truly eat and not eat
I own a rabbit, and in searching for the right foods for her I've gotten quite mixed up. Some pages say this, another article says that. What really is okay for your bunny to eat?
Answers:Your best source for information on house rabbits is the House Rabbit Society. Their page on diet will tell you everything you need to know: http://rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html...
There is a lot of debate still going on about pellets vs. vegetables and what the right proportion should be. Use the above link as a guideline and aim for a balanced and consistent diet.
Sudden changes in diet can be harmful, as rabbits have very sensitive stomachs and digestive problems can escalate to dangerous situations very quickly. Make sure you make a slow transition, mixing old and new food together for a few days, while slowly increasing the new and decreasing the old. After about a week, you should be fully transitioned to the new food. Vegetables and fruit should be introduced in small quantities. Just be sure to keep an eye out for changes in eating or litter box behavior so you can catch any problems early.
Limit fruits to 1-2 tablespoons per 5 lbs. of body weight (none if dieting) from the list below of high fiber fruits. Sugary fruits such as bananas and grapes should be used only sparingly, as occasional treats. Bunnies have a sweet tooth and if left to their own devices will devour sugary foods to the exclusion of healthful ones.
