What do I feed my new guinea pig2007-11-24 22:16:14

I just bought a new guinea pig. I tried feeding it pellets but it seem that my guinea pig doesnt like it. What else should I feed it?

if your pig is under 6 months old, feed an alfalfa based pellet and feed a timothy based pellet after that age. The best guinea pig pellet on the market is made by Oxbow Hay Company and you can find them at oxbowhay.com.

Guinea pigs also need a constant supply of timothy hay which will help wear their teeth to a normal level and prevent good dental health. It also helps their digestive tract.

Feed a variety of fresh veggies daily. Romain lettuce, green peppers, parsley, carrots, and cucumbers are good and provide a great source of vitamin C. (DO NOT put vitamin C drops in the water. It can make the water taste funny and prevent the pig from drinking. Fresh veggies are the best source of vit. C).

Fruits can be given very sparingly as treats and some good choices are watermelon, apples, and grapes.

What was it fed on at the store? I'd assume pellets--so if I were you, I'd leave a bowl of them in the cage just in case. It's going to need pellets to survive. Also, lots of timothy hay.

Your guinea pig should eat it over time, it's probably scared since you just got it. If it doesn't still try feeding another mix from the pet store. Rodents also like veges.

they need to eat alphalfa hay every day and grain or they'll die. also they need fruits and veggies and vitamin c in they're water. talk to a vet or Petsmart person and ask them what they can and can't eat, and if petsmart has any vitamin c tuplements.

Mine like apples, celery, carrots, romaine lettuce, oranges, Timothy hay and Hartz Bonanza Guinea Pig Gourmet Diet. If your piggy doesn't like the pellets you gave him/her try the kind I use. Mine love it! (It has a variety of fruits and veggies in it)
