What do I need to make a C&C cage for possibly 2 guinea pigs
Please tell me where I can get it,what section, and how long I need to make it.
Does it still need bedding?
Where should I put it?
Answers:C & C cages are great for guinea pigs. C & C stands for cubes and coroplast - the cubes are easier to find, usually at Target, Wal-Mart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Linens & Things, etc. If I recall correctly, we bought two packages of the cubes for our original 2 x 4 cage that had a 2nd level, and we had some cubes left over. The coroplast is trickier - I'd recommend checking sign stores (like FastSigns). We actually ended up using lumber for the base and lined it with linoleum.
You'll still want to use a type of bedding to catch and absorb pee. I currently use fleece blankets (in combination with towels layered underneath). In the past I've used Carefresh and Aspen shavings, which worked great as well. The fleece is just easier for me to clean.
The cage should be in an area that's well ventilated and open. Ours is in the living room - the pigs enjoy being in the center of action, and it's also in an area where everyone can see it (i.e. can tell if they need food, hay, water, etc.).
For size recommendations and search engines on where to find C & C supplies, check out guinea pig cages.com. They also have a link to where you can purchase a kit with all the supplies - all you have to do is assemble it - which is easy.
go to Guineapigcages.com they have info and a search for your area to find coroplast
acanoffleas gave you wondeful advice. I usually get my cubes from Target (home storage section). I have trouble finding them at Walmart. I paid between 12-14 dollars for a set of 20-23 pieces. For the coroplast, I got out the phone book and started calling sign makers/printers. I called on a Saturaday so most were closed. The 3rd one I called had coroplast. It comes in a HUGE sheet, but if you know the measurements you need (from guinealpigcages.com) they will cut it for you for free. I spent 20 dollars the coroplast. You can get almost any color, which is fun b/c your pigs are not colorblind and will like the colorful bottom.
You do still need bedding. I use Aspen chips or fleece. The cage will not need to be cleaned as much as a pet store cage, but will need weekly changes. You can scoop out the bedding and wipe coroplast down with vinegar which is 100% safe for your pigs.
Put your cage that is free from drafts and in a common area where your pigs are a part of the household. My boys happen to have their own room. But they are lucky that I have an extra bedroom.
