So, I am going to get a hamster or a gerbil. Which is better? I want an animal that will be smarter and be more social with me and like to play.

I have never had a gerbil, but my hamsters were pretty cool.until they planned to escape. They had 2 litters of twelve hamsters, and then they all jumped on each others back, and ran away into the chimney...hamsters..

get a gerbil, they are more active and way more easy to tame. my hamsters were fat blobs that just sat in their nests eating all day. my gerbils would jump up and run over to me everytime they saw me.

no offense to people with hamster's but they are not very social and friendly animals i have two rats and they are very social and loving animals they are very smart and like to hang out with you on their shoulder if you are looking fr a smart nice and playful look no further than a cute pet rat that's my what i think

P.S. my friend has a hamster and she puts it on her hand and it walks right off it is kinda funny

rats make better pets more social and less likely to bite . Make sure to wash your hands before handling any rodent to make sure there is no food smell on your hands

Gerbil! I have 3! Sprinkels, Sparkle,and Skittles! I call them triple S ! They love you no matter what! they play with you! and just the right size! Hamsters... what can I say... they bit me when I was 5.

I have had two miniture hamsters (true Siberian Hamsters, I believe). Both of them came from different pet stores and have been wonderful companions. Both were trustworthy animals that have never bit me and enjoy being held. They were even well-behaved enough to be handled by children, with supervision, of course. They are relatively low maintenance and don't need exercise every single day, in case you forget to take them out now and again.
