What do baby hamster eat2007-11-24 22:16:09

My hamster had babies. And i know i'm suppose to leave it to their mother for the milk supplies but i'm worried. They start to get out of their nest already.

As long as the momma is feeding them, the only thing you have to worry about is food for the momma.

As their eyes open and they begin eating solid foods, add more hamster food to the cage, as well as some fresh food like carrots, apple, bread and baked (and cooled) potato.

When our hamster had a littler of pups, I gave them 1/2 a baked potato (left over from our meal), and the hungry little pups hollowed out the potato!

I should add that it's perfectly normal for the pups to start crawling around with their eyes closed. It's not a matter of the mother mistreating them, but the pups wanting (and needing) to exercise and discover their surroundings. Perfectly normal!

Don't bother the babies. If you take them away from their mother, they will die for absolute sure. Most baby rodents - including even rabbits - die when they've been taken from their mother or when she smells a strange scent on them and rejects them from the nest.

Why are you worried she isn't feeding them? Unless she's sick or is planning to eat one of them, she's probably feeding them just fine. The baby hams tend to crawl about quite early after birth, even with their eyes still closed, but they know where to eat.

If she really does reject one of them (still, WAIT a while to be absolutely sure she's rejected it), they need kitten milk replacement in an eyedropper, and you can't feed them too much or they'll get air in their stomach. Even if you end up hand-feeding a baby, it's likely it will die, so don't feel too bad or surprised about losing it.

You should'nt feed them, the mother will feed them food and milk. But take the father out of there or it will eat the baby hamsters.
the mother will feed them
baby hamster food
muskrat eggs
dont worry they will come back to get some more milk, once they are grown you can start feeding them real food
DO NOT TOUCH THE BABIES!!!Leave it to the mother. If the mother smells your scent, she may kill them. Just make sure that they have fresh water and hamster food & she'll do the rest. It might be worth getting a hamster book & reading up on breeding. Now they're coming out of the nest it's a good sign. They get quite comical with the mother trying to put the babies in the bed and another one running out at the same time!!Soon you'll have to start sexing & seperating them before they start to fight/breed.
Just put plenty of regular hamster food in the bowl and whenever it gets empty fill it up and your hamsters shoud be just fine!!
A mother hamster will wean the babies between 3-4 weeks of age. At this time she will run out of milk and they will be ready for separation (see below). With the babies on the move, provide them with the small round seeds to eat, these are just right for them. Also lower or provide a second water bottle for the babies at their height, if this can't be done, place a turned over food dish or likeness to use as a step to acess the water. Never use a bowl with water, they may drown. We have a litter on the move right now and have done this for them, they are 10 days old with eyes still closed, but they are trying to eat food and drink water. Syrian babies eyes will open between 13-16 days, but may take longer so don't worry if it takes longer.
