Gerbils eat a numerous amount of foods. I have a female one named Camille(Cami).

I give her raw oats, like the Quaker ones except the brand is not quaker. It is a type of a five grain cereal that resembles quaker oats.

It should be roughly 12% protein and 8 or 7 % fat for a gerbil's diet if it is a healthy non breeding adult. In addition to oats, I feed mine some good quality bird seed, only the smaller seeds. Also I mix in some Kashi puffs-no sugar please. This is a soy based cereal I believe which adds a good source of protein with different grains as well.

A couple times a week I add a piece or two of dried fruit. Every other night I give her brazil nuts, walnuts, or sunflower seeds-broken up if larger nuts. I also break up plain cheerios or Barbera's oat square cereal bites or wheat/whole grain bread for a variety.

Sometimes fresh berries are appreciated-not too much please-as it make cause intestinal upset,

Provide fresh water at all times and change weekly, although they do not drink much. Some like carrot and other veggies or greens-not too many greens since it is linked to causing liver damage.

My Camille does not like lab blocks for food at ALL. Very boring. Only use as a supplement.

If you are looking up jer-bells, I would have to say they like a fine arrangement of oils. This is so the Bell part in them will become clean and not constipate them eveytime they eat. Otherwise I would say bell them just rugular pellets. You can find them at Wallmart along with your ears.
