What do you think
ok, i've had my 2 gerbils for about 7 or 8 months now, but one of them recently died. they were brothers and i've been wanting to get my other one a friend because he's used to having a buddy with him. but i know that you have to "introduce them with "the split-cage method" and i heard that they are sometimes able to get around that. should i get him a friend?
i also heard solitary gerbils live shorter lives, so i really wanted to get him a buddy, im just really concerned about the introduction. how easy is it? and what if it doesn't work?
please help me!
Answers:It's hard. If he's 9 months old or so.. it may not even work. If it doesn't, you have a 2nd lone gerbil who you have to rehome, or keep, and you'll again want to get a new friend..
Here's a site to help: http://www.gerbils.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/...
We have 2 gerbils in separate cages next to each other, 1 male 1 female. They seem to interact, and both are very happy and healthy (and in case of the male, a little fat).. so that would perhaps be a viable option if they won't live together.
Hope this helps.
Yes you should get him a friend, maybe even 2 so they can help each other out.Gerbils are very social pets and no person that knows even a little bit on gerbils will tell you that he will be OK alone. It is possible that the gerbils might get around the split cage method but you should always have a spare tank (or cage) with you so you can try them out.If they would happen to fight you could still keep your new ones and your old one.Just be sure you get males unless you want a lot of babys.
email riverdrou@yahoo.com he is my frind if you need any help he owns 4 rats and 9 gerbels
I know that with Rats if you introduce another male it can go all wrong and get pretty messy. I would suggest that if you do want to introduce a new pal for your little gerbil that you get a pre-adolescent. Rats at least are usually not threatened and mine have always adjusted really quickly to youngsters!
Why the dramatic 'please help me!' Instead of asking strangers, why not contact a reputable gerbil organization and ask them?!
thats what i did. and then i after a couple days, the fought. and one of mine was bleeding badly. they hate each other. i wouldnt do it. and plus, if they fight, he might even have a wayyy shorter life cause there might be a death.
