Aquarium (plastic or glass): Pros=high glass walls limits escape; good visibility, easy to clean depending upon size, many varieties and sizes to chose from to suit your needs. Cons= bad air circulation; heavy glass aquariums are difficult to clean, requires additional attachments for water bottle and allows only freestanding food crocks, wheels, and other accessories.

Wire Rat Cage: Pros= great air circulation, usually built with many levels and obsticles to create a fun, active environment for your rat; optional pull-out tray makes cleaning super-easy; wire allows many attachments to cage (water bottle, food bowl, wheels) . Cons= not as good visibility, possiblity of escape (wires close enough together can get rid of this problem).

My preference would be the wire cage because air circulation is very important to the health of the rat, especially if you don't clean the cage everyday. Hope this helps!

aquriums. glass with a screen top. they are easy to keep clean. . if you get the wire kinds make sure you line the wire with something couse it will hurt the pads of there feet walking on it. an old wash cloth works very well. but it really is personal preferrance. if it's your first get the glass one. you can up grade later. good luck.

I have two rats, and they have a glass tank with a wire tank on top. Wire tanks usually aren't the best choice, but are OK, as long as you put something over the wires, so it doesn't hurt their feet.
