What is my guinea pig trying to tell me2007-11-24 22:17:34

i have 2 piggies and they both occasionally lift thier heads really fast when i pet thier heads. what are they dooing? and they make a purring noise sometimes when i pet them??

Answers:

The purring noise means they are enjoying your petting.

They ALL do the head lifting thing. I call it "head butting". LOL! It means, "Get off my head!". None of my pigs like to have their heads petted. They don't seem to mind scratches with my fingertips though. Some liked to be scratched under the chin too. Pigs also don't like to be petted from their heads to their rears, so start at the base of the neck and pet downward towards the rear.

LOL my sisters guinea pig lifted his head real fast sometimes. it was hilarious. i thought it meant he didnt want to be bothered. but i dunno?
This is normal behavior for adults as well as babies. I love the purring sound they make. The ones I had also liked to whistle when they were trying to get my attention. Head bobbing is just something they do when you pet or rub their heads. I have seen Chinchillas do it to..
well sometimes when mine did that it ment they liked it but when they did it in a dif. way they wanted me to stop.purring means they are happy and like what your doing
Justified is right, The head butts mean, " Stop it". Both my pigs do it occasionally when I pet their head. One prefers chin rubs, the other just wants me to get off his head and pet behind his ears.
Yes, I agree with Justified and Memphisgal. Whilst all of my girls like being petted on the head, if I do do it continously they get sick of it and head butt me!! One of my friends guinea pigs absolutely hates being petted on the head. In the end I suppose it comes down to personality. Like Justified said the purring means that she is happy and enjoying whatever you are doing.
i just thanking you
A purring sound indicates a happy guinea pig that is very likely getting petted. sometimes a purring noise can mean that the guinea pig is looking for a mate. contact me for more questions.
Haha, my best friend's oldest guinea always does that. They're just basically pushing your hand away. It 's a sign they are not in the mood to be pet. And the purring sound is chooing. It's a sound they make when they feel safe, happy, comfortable, etc.
