A Guinea Pig should only be bathed when it's absolutely needed; if there's a foul odor, if he's found sticky and matted, things like that. If he's a longer-haired Guinea Pig you'd naturally want to bathe him more to keep his fur clean and free from dirt and "poo".

Simply fill a deep basin sink or bathtub with 1/4 to 1/2 lukewarm water. Just don't toss him in there and think the water will get the job done; cheaply purchase unscented Baby Shampoo, as it's safe to use on their sensitive skin. Massage it into their fur gently, and rise away with lukewarm water, avoiding their face and ears. A Guinea Pig can easily drown if splashed with handfuls of water in their face. After you bathe him don't put him back in his cage wet and don't use a hair dryer as the heat from the hair dryer can cause heat exhaustion; simply wrap a towel around him and lightly massage him until he's over 3/4 of the way dry... Give him some veggies, like a carrot or his favorite food, after you're done that way it'll promote good behavior in the bath!

I've bathed my Guinea Pig four times in one year; and each time it was because he either got messy or had an odd odor; but after you bathe them you shouldn't have to do it on a regular basis.

In a sink with lukewarm water and use ferret shampoo(keep the shampoo out of its eyes).Most guine pigs do not like baths and will try to jump out of the water,so becareful,don't take your eyes off of it for a second and keep a firm but gentle grip.After you bathe it,its important to get it dry as quickly as possible because they can catch cold quite easily.Towel dry only.

I put about 1/2 inch of water in the bathtub and let "Rodney" run around. He runs around and basically washes himself. I've never used soap on him. I heard it makes them dry.
