What is the ring around a rats eye
my rat has a blue ring around boths its eyes and i mean the eyeball not the skin
Answers:It's a part of the rat's eyeball called the "Sclera" , otherwise known as the white of the eye. It is the same as the white of our eye. Rats are able to move their eyeballs slightly and when they do you see the Sclera which looks like the blue ring you speak of. The blue color is an illusion, it's just the color of the iris reflecting off the white Sclera.

Rats have a similar eye structure to humans. They have the pupil and the iris (the colored part of your eye and theirs) and the white of the eye. It's just that the rat's iris is so much bigger then ours that it fills almost the entire eyeball.
It's not uncommon to see "the white of a rat's eye". It just startles new rat-keepers when they see it because they think that a rat's eyeball is just the color that they see whether it be black, red, or pink. You are about the third person who has expressed wonder at this amazing blue ring. Some rat-keepers call it a halo.
