What is the ring around a rats eye2007-11-24 22:17:39

hard to tell though as rats use their other senses as much as they use their eyes to navigate.

if she acts healthy and smells ok i wouldn't worry about it, other than in curiosity.

All black-eyed rats have a blue rings around their eyes, I don't know the technical name for it, but it's normal.

i wouldn't worry about it unless its causing something else like pink eye. all my hamsters have that as well. i believe it usually shows when they are scared or nervous. most of the time, my hamsters don't show the blue ring but when something frightens them and their eyes kinda pop out more, the blue ring shows. its probably just an internal part of their eye.

Is that his iris? Maybe he has blue colored eyes.
