What is the visible difference between Opal, Satin, and Agouti dwarf hamsters
Well, first of all, Opal and Agouti are colors. Satin is a coat type.
Satin gives the coat a very shiny sheen and with Campbell's dwarf hamsters, make it stick up in clumps, almost as though they've been sprayed with oil.
Opal is a slate blue-grey color, with ochre or orangey highlights down the sides and a cream underbelly.
Agouti is the "normal" color. It is the ticked-brownish color that many wild rodents are, including mice, rats, and rabbits. This is the color Campbell's hamsters are naturally, in the wild.
The genotype of opal is dd.
The genotype of agouti is ++
OPAL: The Opal has a distinctive blue-grey coat on the top and sides and the roots of the hairs are grey. There is a soft grey stripe along the spine and the belly is ivory in colour. There are three arches on the side separating the top blue-grey colour from the ivory belly colour and these arches tend to have distinct cream tinge to them. The eyes are black and the ears dark grey.
