Any equipment occupied or used by a hamster that has died from Wet Tail should be disinfected thoroughly with a disinfectant designed for small animal cages and left to stand for a few weeks before being used by another hamster.

Wet Tail is a disease associated more commonly with the Syrian Hamster and is not associated with Dwarf Hamsters. Dwarf Hamsters can suffer severe diarrhoea but it is not clear at present that they actually suffer from 'Wet Tail'.

Susceptibility to Wet Tail is also thought to be genetically inherited and so it is best not to breed from any hamster that has suffered from Wet Tail during its life.

It is a very serious disease that effects hamsters. Very often little can be done to save a hamster so it is vital to seek veterinary help as soon as you spot any symptoms.

The main symptoms is severe diahorria, and a sore bottom. So its vital to always check your hamsters toilet habits. Wet Tail is caught mainly through an unclean cage, but stress is also a contributor to the disease which is why its common in newer, younger hamsters when first purchased from a pet store and brought home. The stress of moving, can quite literally kill them.

No matter how small a hamster is, and no matter how short their life span is, you are responsible for its health and happiness. If you are concerned about anything to do with your pets health, take it to the vets straight away.

its an intestinal disease which gives them diarhea, and usually causes their death, it occurs quickly and makes them weak, lethargic, don't eat, but mine drank alot of water, she passed from it at the vets, so if they have it treatment has to be immediate, we knew she was ill, took her to the vet and she died anyway, and i was told by the vet it is not stress related, it can come fromeating bad fruits and veggies, ones that aren't fresh.

wet tail happens in hamsters of all ages, it starts off as dierah and siencs they are so small it takes more out of them , if not treated they could die from it. I used to give my hammy veggies with a little bena bac and it helped her she is now almost three years old
