What is wrong and what do i doplease help2007-11-24 22:17:42

i hav many rats (about 15)

they include rex

dubble rex

siamese

hooded and

hairless...

well my female 1yr old hairless (never had babys...)

has some small dark lumps that hav never been there

i am extremly worried

and i think they possibly could be like tumers or something

can some one help

tell me what to do with it

and how to get rid of it please

Hairless rats are known for skin problems - various tumors and cysts. Check out ratguide.com, its an excellent health resource. And as always, take your baby to the vet. =)

What exactly do the lumps look/feel like? Is it possible to post a picture?

Female rats are really susceptible to getting tumors. If you have a vet who is good with rats, he/she might be able to remove them. I know people who have had rats' tumors removed. Unfortunately, they might get more tumors in the future. If your rat is older, you might not want to have the tumors removed because older rats might not survive the surgery. Also, rats can usually live with tumors for a while and not be bothered by them. I had a rat who lived with three tumors for about a half a year before they got so big that she couldn't walk around comfortably. I had her put to sleep because I thought her quality of life was not very high.

In the future, if you get a female rat, you can have her spayed. This reduces her chances of getting tumors by quite a big. Also, you shouldn't breed any rats with tumors, because then her babies are more likely to get tumors later on in life.
