What kind of hamster is he2007-11-24 22:17:15

in the store they said he is a long haired hamster but what breed is that from? Is that a good type to have do they bite like to be held? thanks so much for helping?

it doesnt depend so much on the breed more than on the actual hamster. if the individual hamster likes to be held then you're lucky. most hamsters dont bite but sometimes they may not have been handled properly from birth so they may be scared of humans.

there are only two main types : dwarf and syrian

syrian are really a breed

dwarfs include:

campels russian dwarf

winter whites

roborofskis

chinese dwarfs

a syrian is bigger and can only be kept alone but SOME dwarfs can be kept in pairs. ( not chinese)

it doesnt really matter about the breed. hamsters are all great. ENJOY!

im not sure what breed a long haired hamster is but when i was young my brother had one named Jaws his name was jaws because he loved to bite and didnt like to be pick up.

All of the hamsters in the world are just one breed ... they're Siberian Hamsters. Yours is a 'long haired' hamster because he came from a 'breeding group' of other hamsters with 'longer than normal' hair until it began to 'breed true' for the long hair.
