What kind of hamster should I get and why2007-11-24 22:17:15

I'm moving to a new house and my dad said I can get a hamster. I want a good and cute hamster that lives for a pretty long time. What kind of hamster and why should I get it?

Answers:

My sister has a Black Bear Hamster named B.B. (black bear B.B., get it? lol) They are all blach and have Mickey Mouse ears. They are sooooo cute! And they are different. Most people have teady bear or dwarf hamsters. B.B. has lived for 4 years and is still healthy. She is so sweet. You can do anything to her. My sister even sets her in her lap and lets her watch TV. She likes to climb (like any hamster) so make sure you keep the lid(s) tightly closed!

Most hamsters will live only 2 to 3 years. However, we had a Golden hamster who lived for 5 years!! CC (Crazy Critter, as she has strange habits) was a good hammy (with the occasional escape freaking us out). Right now, I have a dwarf who is cute and small, but we have taken to call her the Devil Rodent (she bites the hand that feeds her)! I have also had a Black Bear, who was very sweet, but she died early of a viral infection.

Convince your dad a rat would be better. They are much more friendly, live about the same as a hamster, and very intelligent. You can teach them tricks if you use peanut butter.

a dwarf hamster because they dont make messes (well notas messy as other hamsters)their friendly and there the only hamster that u can have more than 1 in a cage 2gether
It depends on how large you want your hamster to get, there are dwarf hamsters that stay small and regular hamsters that are larger, they have many different names depending on their color and their coat. You can check on google about different types of hamsters. The temperament varies from hamster to hamster. My black bear hamsters are a lot nicer than my dwarf hamsters, and a lot cuter ;)
First of all, I would NOT get a dwarf hamster. They may be cute, but they are most likely to bite. I have known SOME that do not bite and were the sweetest things, but it seems as if 9 out of 10 do bite. One I would recommend is a Long-haired teddy-bear hamster, aka Syrian hamster. They don't tend to bite (as often) and are easier to keep in your hands without them slipping through every opening between fingers. I had two that would each sit on one of my shoulders. One lived to be a little over 3 years, the other almost 3 years.
Hamsters usually don't live a long time, the average age of most hamsters is about 2-3 years. But Syrian hamsters are probably the best for begginers as they are big enough and easy to tame.
just so you know hamsters don't live long in general. they live average around three years. it depends on what size you want and if you want long or short hair. cuz if you want a small one with short hair i'd get a dwarf hamster and if you want a hamster that's a lil' bigger i would just get a long hair hamsters.

hope this helpz!!
